The recent past has been marked by the development of miniaturized products that include many functions, using a wide variety of scientific disciplines and technologies.
Miniaturization is a constant objective in many industrial sectors to improve user-friendliness and reduce the weight and bulk of objects, giving greater flexibility through portability and the option of combining different objects, or to lower production costs by saving on materials, developing new uses and wider distribution of products. The development of these ‘intelligent’ objects is a major challenge today, which should help develop applications for the general public and professionals.
In this shift towards miniaturization and integrating more functions into objects, the Franche Comté region plays a key role as a recognized specialist in (micro)mechanics and microtechniques.
